The Bikes for Books Program is a reading incentive program between Masonic Lodges and local schools and community.  Students who successfully achieve the reading goals will have an opportunity to be awarded a bike and a helmet.   The Bikes for Books Program is the fastest growing community program with $90,000 in combined expenditures between Masonic Lodges and the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation’s Community Charities Program over the past six years.
Guidelines for the Bikes for Books program:
 
  • Open to Lansing 3rd grade students .
  • Student must read 7 books that are on their grade level.
  • All students that meet the requirements and turn in a completed & signed form will be placed in a drawing for a bike and helmet.
  • For every seven books read, another entry application may be added to the contest.

We will award 16 students with a bike and helmet. Program runs from November 3, 2019 through May 22, 2020 Winners announced, and contacted, the week of June 5, 2020.
A special school assembly will held at the school and 16 students will be awarded a new bicycle, safety helmet, and certificate presented by East Lansing Lodge # 480. In addition, a Special Achievement prize is awarded the student who has demonstrated the greatest improvement in reading skills.
